Celebrating RCMP National Chaplain of the Year

On November 29, 2024, RCMP "H" Division Chaplaincy Coordinator Katherine Bourbonniere was presented the RCMP National Chaplain of the Year award. Chaplain Bourbonniere serves RCMP police officers and their families in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The award was presented to Archdeacon Bourbonniere by Chaplain George Madden, National Manager of Spiritual Wellness Services & RCMP "K" Division Chaplain Coordinator.

Chaplain Madden provided this narrative to the CPCA:

"Today I had the wonderful privilege to present the RCMP National Chaplain of the Year Award to Chaplain Katherine Bourbonnierre from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Katherine was chosen from national submissions from RCMP divisions across Canada, for the outstanding support that she provides for the employees and families in H division. Her passion and desire for serving as an RCMP chaplain is to be a support to help employees and their families have a healthy, balanced career and finish strong in fulfilling their calling as Police officers and support staff".

Katherine serves as an Archdeacon in the Parish of the Anglican Church of Saint Andrew in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. She has three degrees, a Bachelor of Human Ecology (major in Family studies), a Bachelor of Education, and a Masters in Divinity. Katherine is an Alumni of Mount Saint Vincent University and the Atlantic School of Theology. Her passion is dance and she has attained Associate Dance Teacher Status in Stage and Ballet. She has danced and taught with Dartmouth Dance Academy, Maritime Conservatory and Antigonish Creative Dance.

I've had the honour of getting to know Katherine since 2018 while serving together on the CPCA Executive & Leadership Team. During my two terms as CPCA President, Katherine has provided me with valuable counsel and insight. The CPCA Executive and Membership has benefitted tremendously from the services Katherine continues to provide as the Chair of our CPCA Academic Standards Committee. Katherine played a pivotal role in developing the six online Core Courses now available on our CPCA website https://www.canadianpolicechaplainassociation.com/online-courses-for-non-cpca-members

On behalf of the CPCA, congratulations Archdeacon Bourbonniere for the acknowledgement of excellence in service to the Members of the RCMP and their families through the award of the RCMP National Chaplain of the Year.

Warmest regards,

Rev. Bruce Ewanyshyn

CPCA President

ICPC Director of Region 1
